Name change in passport

Anyone who wishes to do a name change either through marriage, divorce or deed poll should apply for a new passport and would require the following:

  1. Name change as a result of marriage should provide a copy of marriage certificate duly certified and registered at your local county clerk’s office.
  2. In case any partner had a previous marriage, proof of dissolution will be required.
  3. In case of divorce, forward divorce decree duly authenticated.
  4. Name change other than above, forward deed poll (document prepared and registered at the Registrar of Documents in the Ministry of Lands in Nairobi) and a copy of Kenya Gazette effecting name change.
  5. Corrections of date of birth and/or place of birth, forward a copy of Birth certificate both sides that was used to acquire the passport (bearing the stamp from Immigration Department) and original expired passport if any.

Additional documents may be requested depending on a particular case.

Kenya National Identity Card Registration

  1. The processing of ID’s will take approximately 8 weeks from the date of application.
  2. All applicants are required to bring pictures taken on a white background; following this dimensions 35mm x 45mm (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm)(1.38×1.77 inches). You may take a 2″ x 2″ passport size picture but make sure your face appears small (fits within the 1.38×1.77 inches) dimensions. 

Please note that holders of first generation (large ID) are considered first time applicants and should fulfill all the requirements as indicated below under section I.

  • A Card/Cashier’s Check of 50Euros Payable to Embassy of the Republic of Kenya.

Requirements:

  1. First time applicants and holders of 1st generation Identity card
  • (3) three pictures taken on a white background (more specifications given above)
  • Copy of Birth Certificate of the applicant
  • Copy of applicant passport {Bio-data page of your passport only. (Page with picture and information)}
  • Copy of Identity Card of either parent of the applicant
  • The original 1st generation Identity card (requirement for holders of 1st generation Identity card)

OR:

  • (3) three pictures taken on a white background (more specifications given above)
  • Copy of Certificate of Registration
  • Copy of Naturalization Certificate
  • Copy of applicant passport (Bio-data page of your passport only, page with picture and information)
  • The original 1st generation Identity card (requirement for holders of 1st generation Identity card)

Replacement of Lost/ Duplicate/ Mutilated Identity card

  • (2) two pictures taken on a white background (more specifications given above)
  • Copy of a police report or a notarized affidavitstating how you lost your Identity Card (for lost cases only)
  • Copy of Birth Certificate of the applicant
  • Copy of the applicant’s Identity Card (if available)
  • Copy of applicant passport (Bio-data page of your passport only, page with picture and information)
  • Original Identity Card (for duplicate or mutilated applications)

Change of Particulars

  • (2) two pictures taken on a white background (more specifications given above)
  • Original Identity Card of applicant.
  • Proof of marriage i.e. Copy of marriage certificate
  • Copies of the couples IDs
  • Copy of applicant passport (Bio-data page of your passport only, page with picture and information)
  • Please note for married ladies who wish to change their names both husband and wife need to be present during the application process.

Canine & Feline Import

To take a pet/dog or cat to Kenya the following is required for issuance of Pet Import license:

  1. A formal letter indicating the importers name and address
  2. Current Health Certificate from a Veterinary doctor (this should be legalized by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
  3. A fee of Euro 20.00 payable for the legalization of the pet’s health certificate and Euro 10.00 for the issuance of a pet permit.

Conditions for importing a canine or feline animal into Kenya

No canine or feline animal shall be imported into Kenya from any country unless accompanied by an international veterinary certificate issued by the Veterinary Authority of the Netherlands attesting that the animal:

  1. showed no clinical sign of rabies on the day of shipment;
  2. was kept since birth or for at least six months prior to shipment in a rabies free country as defined in the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Health Code or satisfy the following conditions:
    • showed no clinical sign of rabies within 48 hours of shipment and either;
    • were identified by a permanent mark (such as a microchip) and their identification number shall be stated in the certificate or had any other adequate identification; and
    • were vaccinated against rabies: not less than six months and not more than a year prior to shipment in the case of primary vaccination, and not more than one year prior to shipment in the case of a booster vaccination
    • were subjected not less than 3 months and not more than 24 months prior to shipment to an antibody test as prescribed in the OIE Terrestrial Manual with a positive result equivalent to at least 0.5 IU/ml;
  3. Is clinically free of symptoms of any other contagious and infectious disease and internal and external parasites, the certificate being dated not more than 48 hours before embarkation.
  4. The animal shall be accompanied by the certificate from the captain of the ship or aircraft or driver of the vessel in which the animal travelled to Kenya certifying that the animal has not left the vessel between the place of embarkation and the place of entry into Kenya and has been isolated from all other canines and feline animals throughout the journey. 
  5. The import permit shall only be for one consignment.
  6. This import permit shall accompany the animal during importation.
  7. The arrival of any animal entering Kenya other than by sea at Mombasa or by air at Nairobi must be reported to the nearest veterinary office within three days of arrival.
  8. Animals in transit for less than 48 hours need not have certificates but will be kept in isolation, at the owners expense, during this period. Such animals will only be allowed to leave Kenya by air or by sea.
  9. Animals entering Kenya should travel as Manifest Cargo and use the Freight compartment of the aircraft. They should not travel as baggage-cargo or in passenger cabins.

Kenya Filming License

Generally, all filming License applications to film in Kenya are issued by Film Licensing Department. Private production companies or individuals are requested to submit their applications through a local agent registered with the Ministry, while Government agencies may submit their applications through the local agents or through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Applications to make a documentary or a commercial advertisement film must be received at the Ministry at least fourteen (14) days in advance before issuance of a license. Applications for a feature film must be submitted at least thirty (30) days in advance.
